DreamWorks LLC also known as DreamWorks Studios who gave us superhits like Shrek has snubbed AMD and chose Intel for its 3D films.
According to the statement released by the company it is switching its computers to Intel chips after a three year deal with AMD has ended. Dreamworks has said that it wants all of its films to be in 3D over the next 18 months when it will strip out its dual core AMD Opterons and replace them with eight core Intel Nehalem chips and the forthcoming Larrabee server processors that will contain from 10 to 100 cores.
Jeffrey Katzenberg, chief executive of DreamWorks Animation said:
Our objective is to significantly heighten the movie going experience using DreamWorks Animation’s ground-breaking 3-D filmmaking tools. Technology plays a significant role in enabling our artists to tell great stories. By utilizing Intel’s computing products, we will create a new and innovative way for moviegoers to experience our films in 3-D.
DreamWorks’ 3-D initiative, using proprietary technology and processes, will make its debut on March 27, 2009, with “Monsters vs. Aliens.”
