Microsoft has appealed in Europe’s second-highest court to overturn or reduce a record penalty of 899 million euros ($1.4 billion) from the European Union.
According to Microsoft spokesman, Jesse Verstraete, the appeal was filed at the European Court of First Instance in Luxembourg.
The European Commission, the E.U.’s antitrust authority, fined the company on Feb. 27 for failing to comply with a 2004 antitrust order. Under that decision, in which Microsoft was fined 497 million euros, the E.U. ordered the software maker to provide data to rivals to allow servers to connect to the Windows platform.
