Telecom equipment maker Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) is planning to shift its head quarters for global business services division from Munich to India with the centre likely to be located in the NCR region. The company also aims to hire around 300 professionals for the new centre.
The 20,000 strong global services team will report to the Indian HQ. Nokia Siemens also has a global networks solutions centre at Chennai.
The services unit contributes 40% to NSN’s revenues. This is NSN’s second major global centre to be headquartered out of India, after the global networks solutions centre at Chennai, which serves as a hub for NSN operations centres across the globe.
According to a Nokia Siemens Networks India spokesperson:
Nokia Siemens Networks has planned to strengthen its Services presence in New Delhi, India. The plan supports the company’s overall transformation strategy and aim to strengthen its presence in new growth markets. We are currently building the services unit in India and would not like to comment on our hirings for the same.
The decision to base the services unit in India was taken for greater proximity to customers in one of the fastest growing telecom markets in the world. A few NSN senior executives would also relocate to India and join the services unit headquarters.
The spokesperson said that the India services unit would be the ‘central hub’, with Munich and Helsinki playing key complimentary roles. Headed by former NSN Asia Pacific head Rajeev Suri, the services business unit reports directly to CEO Simon Beresford-Wylie.
NSN has about 7,000 employees in India, majority of which are part of the services division and will now report to the new headquarters.
The unit caters to clients in over 150 countries and serves over 130-million subscribers. NSN provides services like consultancy, outsourced operations, system integration, hosting, network design and operating & maintaining network infrastructure under its services unit.
