Strategy, Movement, And Progress For eBay

May 7th, 2009 by Admin ~ No Comments

It’s a good thing eBay has a lot of cash. Because they are spending it. Fast. Meanwhile, they continue to hang on to Skype, their Internet-telephony foray-turned-albatross. As their acquisitions have picked up speed, so has the value of Skype. Yet Skype is still something that eBay wants to get rid of-for a profit, of course. When John Donahue spoke on Wednesday, he provided no conclusive information as to whether or not eBay had received any offers for Skype. Certainly, he would not be opposed to selling it should a cash-flushed buyer come along, but it may be more likely that Skype may go public. The $2+ billion price tag may have something to do the fact that it hasn’t sold yet.

eBay is one of those market-savvy companies who saw the recession as a time to act quickly and make strategic moves. There is one strategy that says “the sky is falling” and proceeds to cover one’s head. There is another strategy that watches others cover their heads, and proceeds to run business as usual. Only time will tell which strategy is more effective. eBay is running the latter strategy and has been successful so far.

As of late, the Internet commerce giant, has turned an interested eye toward Asian markets, even scooping up large shares of a South Korean commerce site. eBay has at least learned that their forte is e-commerce, not telephones.
