Australian Federal Police (AFP) has caught 90 people in connection with child pornography. The Operation Centurion, which is part of a wider Interpol investigation involving 170 countries was launched six months ago.
Three were arrested in the ACT, 23 in NSW, 41 in Queensland, four in South Australia, one in Tasmania, 17 in Victoria and one in Western Australia. More arrests are expected in the coming days and authorities warned the sick, evil people who had seen the offending images to be afraid.
Those arrested included a policeman, teachers and a sports administrator.
These days Government in UK is also reviewing proposals to declare all computer-generated images and other non-photographic images of child sexual abuse illegal which it states is a loophole in the system as reported earlier by Intology.
Queensland’s Police Minister Judy Spence has alleged that up to 200 people in the state had seen the images and another 40 could be arrested. According to him:
Everyone who has accessed this site can expect a knock on the door. You don’t have security, you don’t have anonymity. And we will catch you.
One of the person arrested is a primary school teacher who police said photographed pupils and then placed the photos of their heads onto child abuse images before transposing his own photo on to the head of the perpetrator of the acts.
A Canberra-based federal policeman was expected to be sentenced today after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography. A junior sports coach and administrator was also charged.
Operation Centurion was started after a hacker posted 99 child porn images on a European website, which attracted 12 million hits from 150,000 computer users in just 76 hours. Of those, 2883 computer IP addresses were traced back to Australia, and the AFP has identified all of them.
Mr. Keely said:
We’ve got to work through and decide very quickly with our state and territory police partners just which internet sites to go to first or internet establishments to go to first.
