According to a latest report by comScore, an internet marketing research company that provides marketing data, Americans watched more than 12 billion videos online in May 2008.

This figure represents a year-on-year increase of 45 per cent. The study also showed that almost three-quarters of the total US internet audience viewed online video. The average online video viewer watched 228 minutes of video.

Websites owned by Google were on top once again as in May 2008 4.2 billion videos were watched (35 per cent share of all videos viewed). YouTube accounted for more than 98 per cent of all videos viewed at websites owned by Google including Google Videos.

Fox Interactive Media came second with 778 million videos (6.4 per cent), which is 1.3 percent increase from April 2008.

Yahoo websites ranked third with 347 million (2.9 per cent).

Fourth came Microsoft websites with 246 million (2 per cent).

Looking at these figures, no wonder ISPs are tying to regulate bandwidth consumed by users.
