The US State Department has lost over 1000 laptops according to an audit report. Some of the laptops contain high security data.
Nita M. Lowey, a representative on the House Appropriations subcommittee that oversees State Department operations, told Congressional Quarterly that she is “concerned” about the security revelations.
According to the details around $30 million worth of computer hardware is missing and the bulk of its share goes to laptops.
Lowey said:
The importance of safeguarding official laptops and office equipment containing sensitive information is not a new concern. I intend to review the facts about this situation.
Over 400 of these laptops were from the Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program.
