Bug in Flash 9 being exploited by hackers

May 28th, 2008 by Kiyani ~ No Comments

According to the news by SANS Internet Storm Center, Adobe Flash Player version 9.0.124.0 has a vulnerability which is being actively exploited. Some earlier versions may also be affected.

This was also confirmed by Symantec that there are reported incidents of “Remote Code Execution Vulnerability” being exploited.

There are 20,000 confirmed incidents of web pages compromised via SQL injection to redirect visitors to one of three China-based domains serving up exploit code according to Symantec.

Adobe is investigating the issue and released the following statement to

SCMagazineUS:

We are aware of today’s report of a Flash Player exploit in the wild. We are working with Symantec to investigate the potential SWF [the Flash file format] vulnerability and will have an update once we get more information.

Symantec has issued a warning to users particularly corporate ones that they should disable/uninstall Flash for the moment until a patch is released by Adobe. Or at least they must not visit untrusted sites.
