China has surpassed USA as the no.1 nation in Internet users. According to estimates from official Chinese statistics by the Beijing based research group BDA China, the number Internet users in China hit more than 220 million as of February 2008. This will be confirmed by Chinese government in July 2008 when it releases its half-yearly report.
According to Nielsen/NetRatings, USA being the longtime Internet leader and pioneer which founded and developed the network of computers, had 216 million users at the end of 2007.Although when it comes to percentage USA still has lead over China as it’s 71% users exceeds China’s 17%. China has a population of 1.3 billion people, compared with nearly 304 million in the USA.
On the other hand China, has a higher growth rate, says BDA’s chairman, Duncan Clark. By the end of March, for example, Chinese users climbed to 233 million.
