  • Subscribe to Google Alerts to monitor developing news stories based on your topics/keywords from around the world. So let’s say if your website deals with XBox games, you can subscribe to Google Alerts with this keyword and as soon as Google finds a new story on XBox, you will be notified.
  • Always make a Sitemap for your website and keep it updated. There are a lot of free tools available to make sitemap. Don’t leave broken links in them as they can help search engines crawl the site much easily.
  • If you are a blogger then subscribe to PING and FEED BURNING services. WordPress and Blogger e.t.c will automatically do this for you. Pinging Google will help your blog come in Google Blog Search early.
  • Keep a close eye on Google Trends. Always look out for what people are searching.
  • Reduce visitor bounce rate by showing them related items. The Bounce Rate for a single page is the number of visitors who enter the site at a page and leave within the specified timeout period without viewing another page, divided by the total number of visitors who entered the site at that page.
  • Optimize your website’s 404 page by using your main keyword in the title, with a “pipe” sign and then use your secondary keyword. Add your site’s standard navigation system and make the look and feel of the customized 404 page match your main site as closely as possible.
You may also add some keyword rich content using one to two keywords for the page.
  • Always use dashes “-” in your page URL instead of underscore “_”.
  • Always set up 301 redirects for renamed or deleted pages.
  • Run Xenu or similar for links out on page internal navigation and check broken links.
  • Find best keywords by using Google AdWords Keyword tool. Use it you find cost and position estimate of each keyword plus Google also shows related keywords based on your input.
