IBM introduces Carbon Tradeoff Modeler

May 23rd, 2008 by Kiyani ~ No Comments

If you want to calculate your company’s carbon emissions footprint then look no further because IBM has unveiled a new application called Carbon Tradeoff Modeler for calculating carbon footprint.

This tool enables organizations to analyze and manage the climate impact of their supply chains.

The tool estimates the amount of carbon emitted in various business processes, such as packaging products and transporting materials. It can also quantify the tradeoffs between CO2 emissions reductions and other supply chain metrics such as inventory levels, and on-time delivery.

According to Sanjeev Nagrath, global leader of supply chain management at IBM Global Business Services:

To achieve a carbon-efficient supply chain, companies need to assess the CO2 emissions impact of their end-to-end operations. By incorporating research-based tools to model the cost and carbon impact of key steps in the supply chain, firms can take action to reduce CO2 emissions and influence suppliers’ behaviour in reducing their own greenhouse gas emissions.

The tool also calculates the impact of consolidating orders to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions in transportation as well as on-time delivery performance.

It is developed by IBM Research and IBM Global Business Services.
