Microsoft has released Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 with some new features including an inPrivate mode that allows the records of a web session to be kept private.
This mode allows the user to suspend caching functions while you surf. The main user interface remains the same as in previous Beta 1 but Microsoft has added a Security pull-down menu between Page and Tools on the main toolbar. In addition to blocking phishing sites, IE 8 now highlights the main domain of any Web site you visit.
One of the distinctive feature of IE8 Beta 2 is a cross-site scripting filter which is one of the first in a mainstream browser. Cross-site scripting allows an attacker to execute script on a user’s browser without them knowing.
Other notable features are improved tabbed browsing and a smarter address bar that uses previous history to try and predict the requested URL.
IE8 Beta 2 has successfully passed Acid2 browser test, includes CSS 2.1 and supports W3C’s HTML 5 Draft DOM Storage standard and the Web API Working Group’s Selectors API.
Security has also improved as now ActiveX components will be installed per user, which eliminates the need for everyone to have administrator privileges. In addition, you must acknowledge or opt in for the component to run, eliminating drive-by downloads.
For system administrators Microsoft has added a new user interface to its Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK).
