Microsoft faces yet another legal case, this time related to Silverlight which according to a video metadata company named “Gotuit” infringes on its patent.
According to the case filed on July 2 in San Francisco Federal Court, Gotuit says Silverlight infringes on several of its patents including the one which allows superior video discovery and content monetization. They are seeking an injunction against the software maker as well as damages and attorney’s fees.
Microsoft plans to use Silverlight to allow visitors to NBCOlympics.com to watch multiple events at the same time, as well as view streaming commentary which is an important part of this lawsuite.
San Francisco-based lawyer Spencer Hosie is representing Gotuit. He is the same guy who successfully represented Burst.com in its “streaming media technology” suit against Microsoft which resulted in $60 million settlement between the two companies.
In response to this lawsuit Microsoft spokesman David Bowermaster replied:
The company had yet to be served in the case, so we’re not in a position to comment.
