July 22nd, 2008 by Kiyani ~ No Comments

Research In Motion (RIM) has released the patch for BlackBerry PDF flaw that could allow malicious code execution and compromise the enterprise server running the BlackBerry Attachment Service.

The vulnerability was given a rating of 9 out of 10 and could enable a malicious individual to use a specially crafted PDF file attachment in an email message to cause arbitrary code to execute on the computer that the BlackBerry Attachment Service runs on.

According to a statement released by RIM they fixed the bug in BlackBerry Enterprise Server versions 4.1.3 through 4.1.5. It reads:

There were no customer reports of any actual problems relating to this vulnerability, and RIM has since provided software updates that resolve the issue.

The latest Enterprise Server version, 4.1.6 for Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino, was not affected by the vulnerability.
