Convicted spammer Edward “Eddie” Davidson, 35, also known as “Spam King” escaped from a federal prison camp in Florence on July 20.
A resident of Louisville, Colorado, he was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Marcia S. Krieger to serve 21 months followed by 3 years of supervised release for sending spam e-mail messages. He was also ordered to pay US $714,139 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service(IRS).
He sent millions of spam messages promoting penny stocks which he then traded when the price rose. After serving just 5 weeks he ran away with his wife.
Davidson was being kept in a minimum security facility in Florence, Colarado. According to Will Cochenour of Lakewood police:
He jumped in the car with his wife. When they were leaving, he forced her in the car, brought them home and left after a change in clothing. He’s still at large.
He was last seen in Lakewood. U.S. Marshals are leading the search for Davidson. The FBI, IRS, and the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force are aiding in the search.
