The Changing Face Of YouTube

July 9th, 2009 by Admin ~ No Comments

As online television continues to grow, sites like YouTube are embracing what keeps audiences looking at TV channels each day.  Popularity in watching clips, movies and even shows online has increased dramatically in recent years. A research study published on mediapost.com conducted by Frank N. Magid Associates revealed that one-third of consumers whom watch online video clips found them more entertaining than television shows.

YouTube has added some changes to its video face in its continuing efforts to rival television and allow viewers to reach the power of on-demand television on the internet.  This includes full length shows, trailers and new channels.

TV shows are very popular each day and YouTube has categorized many of the popular choices.  The various categories include reality TV, drama, classic TV, documentary and comedy.  Popular shows from the past few years can be seen such as the hit drama series Jericho.

Additionally, older shows that have retained popularity such as Party of Five, Fantasy Island (now that is an oldie), Dragnet, MacGyver, and The Outer Limits can be watched. In the classic TV section, some of the golden oldies from the early 20th century like Beverly Hillbillies and the Lone Ranger can be viewed. Trekkie fans can watch the entire original Star Trek series, all 72 episodes in the Science Fiction category.

The new shows section is also a launching point for shows that never made it to the TV screen. There are new shows unseen by the public expediting the fast-moving online television phenomenon as a platform for reaching out to the consumers.

Another great new attraction has caused some talks across blogs, that being movie trailers. YouTube have been quizzed by the media as to why they did not host trailers before and now finally, categories exist where trailers of the current and forthcoming big movies can be viewed.

Channels are very popular on YouTube with so many differing tastes for subject matter. It’s also very easy to start a your own channel on just about anything related to the videos your select. YouTube is offering some new design changes to those of us whom enjoy creating and sharing channels. Users will be able to edit channels on-the-fly with a new in-channel editing mode that allows you to edit on the channel page.

Since channels are so popular, YouTube is changing the viewing experience within channels. Two improvements are better browsing of videos and full customization on how videos are displayed on your channel. Users will be able to browse through videos without leaving the channel page. Better customization means that you get to control how your favorites are arranged on the channel page which brings the design closer to a page that you can fully control.

It’s likely that the whole viewing experience will improve further with the steady increase in popularity of online television. YouTube will no doubt do whatever it takes to stay at the forefront.
