Universal Music launches DRM-free service for UK

July 31st, 2008 by Kiyani ~ No Comments

Universal Music has launched a new DRM-free music service called Lost Tunes for users in UK.

Through Lost Tunes service users will be able to find older and hard-to-find songs from the company’s catalogue. Because the files will be sold without DRM protections they can be freely copied to CD or a portable media player.

Some people may see it as competitor to Apple iTunes and Real Rhapsody but Universal has categorically stated that it won’t compete with them over new releases. Instead the service will cater to only old and obscure titles.

According to Universal:

Think of us as your small local record store, run by a team dedicated to helping you find the very best music. And not only that, but Lost Tunes comes with a secret stash of records you can’t find anywhere else online.

Each song costs 99 pence, while the price for full albums varies.

Some of the artists on Lost Tunes website include folk singer Sandy Denny, British rock pioneer Billy Fury and 90′s pop mainstays 10,000 Maniacs.
