US company introduces $299 mini laptop with Linux

3K Computers a U.S. manufacturer of Built-to-Order (BTO) desktops, laptops, workstations, servers, and storage equipment has introduced a new $299 ultra portable laptop.

3K RazorBook 400 - Mini-Notebook PC (UMPC) Ultra Mobile PC comes with WiFi 802.11 b/g and 7″ LCD TFT display.

This mini machine is aimed at professionals and students who need web browsing, Flash games and instant messaging. Some of its features are:

  • Ingenic 400 MHz32-bit single core mobile processor
  • 512 MB DDR2 RAM
  • 4 GB Flash Drive (internal)
  • Integrated Ethernet 10/100 mbps
  • Integrated 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi
  • Three USB ports
  • Full sized keyboard
  • Integrated audio and speakers
  • 7 inch TFT LCD

With a boot up time of only 15seconds, the RazorBook 400 is always ready to get into action. It comes with Linux OfficeSuite which can open MS Word and Excel files. PDF reader and Mozilla Firefox is also included.

According to 3K chief executive Dan Jacobs:

There has been a lot of comparison from bloggers to the Asus Eee PC due to its similar 7in LCD form factor. The 3K RazorBook 400 is a unique product that was designed as a low-cost portable internet appliance, not to replace your home PC or notebook computer.

It weighs under 2lbs and comes with 1 year standard warranty.

    Combine this with storing everything online and I think this is a winner. How long until we hit the $200 mark I wonder.
