According to information posted on Microsoft’s Windows XP message board, hundreds of users are complaining that the update is wreaking havoc on their PCs.
The problems range from spontaneous reboots to outright system crashes.
According to a user Michael Faklis, who posted on forums:
Anther user Doug W. complained:
Microsoft released Windows XP SP3 to broad distribution on Wednesday. It’s available from Microsoft’s automated Windows Update service or as a file that can be pulled from the Download Center on the company’s Web site. It’s not uncommon for major operating system updates to cause problems especially Windows Service Pack which has a past history. Typically, the glitches are due to conflicts with software, such as drivers, system files, or applications already resident on the user’s PC. Microsoft has yet to indicate whether it will issue an update to address some of the problems, though it has done so with previous updates. A user named Paul said:

It should be noted that XP3 won’t install on systems running beta IE8; and after a successful SP3 install users will no longer be able to downgrade from IE7 to IE6.
