YouTube bans user for posting his own crime videos

May 24th, 2008 by Kiyani ~ No Comments

Andrew Kellett, 23, from Leeds UK was banned from YouTube after he posted more than 80 videos of crimes committed by him.

He was also given an interim Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) by Leeds magistrates for a range of offences.

One of the videos showed Kellett leaving a petrol station without paying. In other videos he was seen taking class A drugs and driving a car at more than 140mph.

In the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland an ASBO is a civil order made against a person who has been shown to have engaged in anti-social behaviour. In the UK, there has been criticism that an ASBO is sometimes viewed as a ‘badge of honour’ by some younger people and this is what exactly Kellett did.

According to Leeds City councillor Les Carter:

Kellett must be in the running to be Leeds’ dumbest criminal. He has handed us the evidence against him on a plate. In the past three years, we have seen a 32 per cent reduction in crime in Leeds. If more criminals were as obliging, the city would be even safer.

He also posted clips of him with other people setting off fireworks in a wheelie bin and in a microwave oven in the road.

Under the terms of the ASBO, Kellett has been banned from posting any image or description of unlawful activity on the internet.

Participating in, or encouraging others to participate in, the driving of vehicles in a dangerous or anti-social fashion would also break the terms of the ASBO.

He could face a jail term for breaking this interim order, which will last until a hearing next month.

Kellett will appeal against ASBO on the grounds that it potentially breaches his human rights by restricting his right to free expression.
