From now on you will get one less email about narcotic drugs.

Jorge Alan Rodriguez Sanchez, 32, the owner of an online pharmacy store has been indicted by a US court on charges of distributing controlled substances.

Rodriguez started this business in 2002 by creating an email account through which he allegedly sold narcotic prescription drugs, such as Oxycontin, and other controlled substances to customers without prescriptions or legitimate medical uses.

The indictment alleges that customers purchased drugs by placing orders via emails sent to Rodriguez’s account. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, five years of supervised release and a fine of $250,000 on each count.

OxyContin is a prescription painkiller used for moderate to high pain relief associated with injuries, bursitis, dislocations, fractures, neuralgia, arthritis, lower back pain, and pain associated with cancer. OxyContin contains oxycodone, the medication’s active ingredient, in a timed-release tablet. Oxycodone products have been illicitly abused for the past 30 years.

Illegal distribution of OxyContin occurs through pharmacy diversion, physicians, “doctor shopping,” faked prescriptions, and robbery, all of which divert the pharmaceutical onto the illicit market.

The defendant also sold other prescription drugs such as Vicodin, Valium, Ritalin and Xanax, according to court documents.

Customers were requested to wire payment for the drugs to him and other co-conspirators through Western Union. He retrieved the money at a Western Union location in Mexico, but shipped the drugs from southern California to customers throughout the US.

Rodriguez did not require a prescription or physical examination by a licensed physician from any of his customers.
