Anyone holding his or her breath for Google to save the world had better stop. The search giant – which is perhaps stretching itself a little thin – has delayed announcing the top ideas for Project 10^100 once again.
Project 10^100 was announced in September as “a call for ideas that could help as many people as possible, and a program to bring the best of those ideas to life.” Apparently over 150,000 submissions in 25 languages have poured in, leaving Google unable to process everything by either January 27th or March 16th.
So a voting stage has just been pushed back to an unspecified date this time. Ditto for whenever Google will put up $10 million to implement five or so final ideas.
The delay is understandable enough considering the scope of the project. At the same time, it’s hard not to wonder how Google didn’t realize what it was getting itself into. And considering what problems Project 10^100 might wind up tackling, a lot of damage might be occurring during due to this holdup.
Ah, well. It’s the thought that counts, etc.
