Open source community is unhappy over Read Hat patent settlement with companies Firestar Software, Inc., DataTern and Amphion Innovations PLC, for an undisclosed sum.
The settlement was about a product Hibernate which Red Hat acquired when it bought JBoss in 2006.

Linux registers 22 percent sales growth in China

According to a China based consulting firm CCID, the commercial Linux market saw 22.6 percent increase in sales over the past year.
As manufacturers broaden their distribution channels, Linux is expanding out of its traditional markets around major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai.

ASUS motherboards to have Splashtop Linux

Asus has announced that all its motherboards will come with Express Gate version of Splashtop Linux.
Initially it will be available on new P5Q Deluxe, P5Q-WS, P5Q3 Deluxe and P5Q-E series motherboards but later it will be extended to all motherboards by producing one million units per month.

Programmers prefer Windows XP over Vista

A survey by Evans Data, a market research company, has revealed that more developers prefer Windows XP over Windows Vista when it comes to developing applications.
They survey questioned 380 US software developers and found that just eight per cent are developing applications for Vista.

Microsoft join hands with One Laptop Per Child

The One Laptop Per Child project (OPLC) has confirmed the availability of Windows operating system on XO laptop. Both OLPC and Microsoft officially announced the deal.
Linux is already available on XO.
